Tanator are a band from Russia that plays a blackened form of thrash metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Possessed By Madness, Possessed By War" which was released as a joint effort between Grotesque Sounds Records and Narcoleptica Productions.
Sounds of wind start off the album before adding in heavy yet melodic guitar riffing and drums and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard along with some high pitched black metal screams and back up shouts are also used at times.
A great amount of old school thrash metal elements can be heard in the guitar riffing and the songs bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads remain true to an 80's style of extreme metal and some of the riffing also adds in a touch of crust and the album also remains very heavy from beginning to ending of the recording.
Tanator plays a musical style that mixes black and thrash metal together with a touch of crust punk to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover dark, violent, and anti religion themes.
In my opinion Tanator are a very great sounding blackened thrash metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Siberian Hell" "Chaos" "Holidays In the Church" and "Prison". 8 out of 10.
