Wurdulak/Ceremony Of Flames/Baphomet Records/2001 CD Review

Wurdulak where  a side project of Norway's Maniac(Mayhem,Skitliv) Killjoy(Necrophagia, Viking Crown) Frediablo(Gorelord), Jehmoc (Bloodthorn) Ihizahg (Perished) and Ihizahg (Immortal) that plays a retro thrash rock style of black metal and this a review of their cult 2001 album Ceremony Of Flames" which was released by Baphomet Records.

Drums range from slow to mid paced beats with some faster drumming that utilizes a lot of brutal blast beats while the bass playing is mixed down low in the mix and has a lot of fast black/thrash riffing.

Rhythm guitars are mostly mid paced on this album with riffs that mix black metal, thrash and rock together with some faster riffs being used at times that have a mid 90's Norwegian black metal sound while the lead guitars are noisy guitar solos that are very retro metal sounding.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with some blackened death metal growls being used at times, while the lyrics are very anti christian with a dose of Satanism as well as some songs being based on horror films as for the production on this album which was recorded at Skansen Studios in Trondheim, Norway during March of 2001 and mixed in April of that same year sounds very raw but still has a professional sound and you can still hear off the musical instruments.

In my opinion Wurdulak where a very good band and this was a classic album, if you are fan a fan of thrash influenced black metal you should have this album in your collection. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Satanic Utopia" "Containment Of Inferno" and "Chosen Below". RECOMMENDED BUY.
